RST’s undergraduate programs prepare students for dynamic careers in the world’s largest industries. There are many exciting careers students can pursue with a degree in Recreation, Sport and Tourism. Some examples include:
- Sport facility management (e.g., stadiums, arenas)
- Tourism development and planning (e.g., marketing and digital content manager, international tourism sales manager, destination manager, director of tourism research and analytics)
- Event management (e.g., festivals, sport events)
- Community recreation development and management (e.g., youth and adult sport programming, special events, fitness and wellness director, recreation facility management, marketing)
- Park and natural area planning and management (e.g., park manager, park planner)
- Collegiate athletic administration (e.g., marketing, operations, fundraising, sport communication)
- Commercial recreation (e.g., theme parks, cruises, zoos and aquariums, resorts)
Graduate Program
Graduate students in RST are positioned for high-powered futures in the RST industry, nonprofits, government, entrepreneurship, research, and higher education. In addition to the careers listed above, additional examples include:
- Program director for a sports commission
- Public relations and advocacy for nonprofit cause-related foundations (e.g., American Lung Association, ALS Association, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Rails to Trails Conservancy, American Hiking Society)
- Evaluation and Research Manager
- Professor
- Resort and theme park marketing and/or public relations manager
- Convention and visitor’s bureau manager (e.g., destination marketing, event management)
